Oh, Grandpa,
I remember you clearly,
Warm and loving,
For you loved us dearly;

I remember you
bright and sunny,
Rosy-cheeked,
and oh so funny;
For us kids,
quarters and lozenger candy,
From your pockets
Always handy;

I remember a trip
To an ice cream store,
You bought us cones
But gave me so much more;

Afraid of bugs,
I'd do more than shudder,
When one landed on my cone
I asked for another;

You swiped it off
Examined it closely
"Oh, an ice cream bug,"
You proclaimed morosely;

"He exists solely
To land on cones,
It's what he lives for,
It's in his bones."

"He gave his life
To make your cone sweet,
and now it'a an extra
Special Treat!"

That's what love
is all about,
To trust completely,
to believe without a doubt!
