The Old House
The old house is tattered and torn
With a roof that needs repair
The front door is barely hanging
Moving slightly with the wind
The Porch is leaning to the right
With several holes in the floor
The outhouse door is standing open
No one to use it anymore
The yard needs lots of attention
Weeds are all that grow there now
There used to be a beautiful garden
With flowers as far as you can see
The picture you now see of this old house
Is nothing like it was years ago
This house holds beautiful memories
Of a large family that once lived there.
The stories that these walls hold
Are large enough to fill each room
Of several family gatherings
Of people far and near
Every Sunday following church
Neighbors from miles around
Joined the family dinner table
Visiting and enjoying the fellowship
So when you pass by this old house
Enjoying the good country air
Let your mind wander back in time
Hear the laughter of the voices gone by
They have now gone on to Heaven
Living in God’s green meadows
They are forever singing and praising
In our Lord’s eternal land
