Rev. Edgar R. Lawyer Services

1906-2004

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bundy-Law funeral Home, Cambridge, for Rev. Edgar L. Lawyer, 97, of Cambridge, who died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2004) at The Beckett House, New Concord.

The Revs. Jack Townsend and Francis Lafollette will officiate. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born May 9, 1906, in Zanesville, son of the late Burt and Helen (Bowman) Lawyer.

He was a long time employee of JC Penney in Cambridge, having served in the shoe department. He owned and operated M&K Meat Market in Cambridge for several years, following its closing he and his brother-in-law opened Try Angle Meat Market in Cambridge, where he worked for more than 15 years.

Rev. Lawyer became a minister on Nov. 2, 1941, and served the First Church of God on Sherman Avenue in Cambridge for 34 years.  He also pastored First Church of God in Zanesville, and Rocky Fork in Newark. He had been in the ministry for more than 60 years, including conducting Bible studies at the Beckett House, while he was  a resident.

Following a stroke in 1986, Rev. Lawyer assisted in starting a support group for stroke victims, Reach Out and Touch Someone.

He was a former member of the Cambridge Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola l. Lawyer, on Dec. 15, 2001.  They were married June 23, 1931.  Also deceased is four brothers, Arthur, Russell, Robert and Burt Lawyer; and five sisters, Thelma Grosscup, Betty Lawyer, Bonnie Jean Lawyer, Virginia Richards and Ruth Archer.

Rev. and Mrs. Lawyer helped raise 23 children.  He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Ron (Sandra) Nichols of Norwich; a sister, Bonita Maxwell of Cincinnati; a brother, Don Lawyer; two granddaughters, Tamara Schwartz of Norwich and Mrs. Matthew (Pamela) Taylor of Fredericksburg, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Kristin and Allyson Schwartz of Norwich and Hannah Rose Taylor of Fredericksburg, Va.

Ola L. Lawyer

1909-2001

Ola L. Lawyer, 92, of Cambridge, died Saturday (Dec. 15, 2001) at The Beckett House, New Concord.

She was born Feb . 23, 1909 in Cumberland, daughter of the late Charles and Stella (Weinstock) Paisley.

Mrs. Lawyer worked at Style Center and Fred Raymonds as a seamstress.

Mrs. Lawyer and her husband, the Rev. Edgar R. Lawyer, served for 34 years at the First Church of God in Cambridge. She was also a member of the missionary group at the church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Carlos Paisley, Dalton Paisley, Dallas Paisley, Cheney Paisley and Fred Paisley; three sisters, Nova Ellis, Minta Faye Sowers and Mildred Fern Paisley.

She married the Rev. Lawyer who lives in Cambridge, on June 23, 1931.

Also surviving are one sister, Leah Kennedy of Jan Jacinto, Calif.; two granddaughters, Tamara Schwartz of Norwich and Pamela (Matthew) Taylor of St. Louis, Mo.; three great-granddaughters, Kristin and Allyson Schwartz of Norwich and Hannah Roe Taylor of St. Louis, Mo; and several nieces and nephews including Sandra (Ron) Nichols of Norwich.

Mrs. Lawyer helped raise  23 children.

Friends may call form 5-8 p.m Monday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Virginia Geiger and the Rev. Matthew Taylor of St. Louis, Mo., officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.
